Be nice
We are a community of creatives that come to jovoto to work with each other, to inspire each other and to improve ourselves and our work. As such, we want to provide an open and inviting environment that welcomes any creative mind from anywhere in the world, no matter their background, culture, creed, creative experience or identity - everybody can participate. That means that our number one rule is to be nice to each other and treat one another with respect. In a community, every member has an influence on how it treats newcomers, how discussions amongst members are conducted and how welcoming the general atmosphere is. So let’s be civil to each, play nice and create a great community of creative minds.
Be helpful
Receiving (and giving) feedback plays a crucial part when it comes to improving one’s work, especially if it is criticism. We would like to encourage everyone of you to provide feedback to your fellow creatives and accept feedback when it is given for one of your ideas.
At the same time we would like to remind you that feedback you provide anywhere on jovoto should be constructive. This does not mean that you shouldn’t point put negative aspects of an idea (or the jovoto platform for that matter) but that it should be done in a constructive manner.
Constructive feedback is about offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one. Think less about feedback and more about feedforward! - your comments on ideas should help your fellow creatives improve their work - either to develop and advance that idea or ones in the future. Read our tips on giving great feedback.
There are no bad ideas
Once in a while you might come across an idea that you don’t really like. Or maybe you are developing an idea that goes into a completely new direction than anything that has been submitted in a project so far. Either way, there are no bad ideas and no matter if you think someone else’s idea is not the greatest or you might be afraid that others might judge your out-of-the-box idea unfairly, we encourage everyone to be bold, accepting, understanding and willing to take risks.
When that happens, try to see the submitters’ new approach to the problem and provide constructive feedback on how they can improve their idea.
Suspicions of copied ideas? Come to us first!
Great minds think alike is a pretty well known saying and it definitely contains some truth. While working on jovoto, you might come across submissions that seem similar to your own and that is absolutely OK. What is not OK is blatantly copying someone else’s ideas and submitting them as your own work. While you might draw some inspiration from someone’s submission, every idea you submit on jovoto must be your own.
If you suspect that someone has copied your idea, please use the Report Function on the idea and inform the Creative Guide for the project. Please do not start an argument with the creative directly in the comment section. Let us know about the issue and we will take care of the problem.
Stay on topic
Talking is fun and we all have a lot to share with each other but there is a time and a place for every type of conversation. When you’re part of a project we would like to ask you to limit the conversations you have in the comment section of the brief to topics related to this project. Likewise, when you post in the comment section of an idea, please only discuss the specific idea and provide feedback.
If you want to share more with your fellow creatives, if you have questions you would like answered or if you want to provide other people with some friendly pieces of advice, you can do that in our Community Forums.
Share feedback and report problems
Do you have some feedback for us on how we can improve jovoto? Then we want to hear it!
Your suggestions for improvements as well as your reports of problems and issues are always very welcome.
Our Creative Guides are responsible for mentoring and supporting you throughout a project. Questions and problems relating directly to the project can be addressed at the Guides, either via a comment under the brief or a direct message.
Feedback that is not directly related to a specific project, e.g. feedback about processes, features, payments and other topics generally relating to jovoto as a platform should NOT be posted in the comment sections under briefs or ideas but in the Feedback Discussions section of our forums. If you have a specific problem you need help with, please send us a Support Request.
Sanctions
We expect every creative participating on jovoto to abide by this Code of Conduct and we reserve the right to sanction users who do violate these rules. We will utilize a “three strikes” system to warn and sanction users that violate the code of conduct. The specific sanction can vary from case to case but the first strike will always be a warning, followed by a low impact or temporary sanction when a second strike occurs and finally we can resort to permanent suspensions if the offender does not change their behaviour and continues to violate the code of conduct.
We hope it will not be necessary to utilize these sanctions but we want to create a civil, open and welcoming space in which everyone can realize their creative potential and we will use the tools at our disposal to ensure it.
